Observatory of environmental safety

The purpose of the RC Observatory of environmental safety form an integrated system of education and research in the field of environmental safety and sustainable development of the regions. RC equipment allows the study of pollution: air, natural and man-made waste water, soil, assess toxicological risk of natural and man-made water using biological methods - optical bioelectronic systems, explore the biological fluid, tissue extracts of animals and plants, as well as certain types of biomolecules used for environmental testing and assessment of pollution. Specialized software allows you to solve problems related to the evaluation of environmental damage, transport of pollutants, process modeling of pollution. Of particular relevance research in the field of environmental safety, ensuring early diagnosis and prompt prevention of environmental safety threats received in recent years, when the world marked increase in the number of natural and man-made disasters, extreme weather events caused casualties, material losses and huge environmental damage.

Resource Center Observatory of environmental safety includes:

I. Lidar complex. It consists of a mobile lidar complex on the base vehicle and stationary lidar complex located in the astronomical tower of the Faculty of Geography and Geo. This module allows you to get the results of lidar sensing that appear on the screen in the form of aerosols, their particle size, the content of variable gas, the vertical profile of wind speed and direction, which allows to determine the direction and speed of the spread of pollutants. Thus, lidar sensing provides a fairly complete environmental information on the pollution in the atmosphere. Equipment complex will conduct research to assess transboundary air pollution, assessment of the contribution of shipping to air pollution, the study of daily and seasonal fluctuations of pollution caps and other metropolitan areas. "The permanent members of networks EARLINET - European Aerosol Research Lidar Network and the network ACTRiS - Aerosols, Clouds , and Trace gases Research InfraStructure Network noted the high possibility of the lidar equipment RC Observatory environmental safety of St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg State University which allowed to become a full member of the network and EARLINET ACTRIS, the first station on the territory of Russia.

II. Bioelectronic complex. Using the equipment of the complex provides basic research in the field of environmental physiology, ecotoxicology, benthic invertebrates, problems related to the assessment of biological effects of anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems. The use of biological methods enables an objective assessment of toxicological risks of natural and biologically treated wastewater in real time.

III.Biochemical complex. The equipment is designed to block the biochemical study of biological fluids, tissue extracts of animals and plants, as well as certain types of biomolecules used for testing and evaluation of environmental pollution. Complex equipment provides photometric, spectrophotometric, fluorimetric, titration, electrophoretic and other studies in the analysis of proteins, nucleic acids, amino acids and oligonucleotides, metabolites, enzyme activity, the study of the diversity of the multiple forms of biomolecules, changes induced by toxic factors.

IV. Environmental and Mathematics Complex. Specialized software eco-mathematical complex allows to solve various problems related to the analysis and processing of information lidar network
Mathematical modeling of contaminant transport processes and situational modeling of pollution. The complex is equipped with modern facilities with the installation of modern interactive boards, equipment for presentations and high-resolution video wall.
